A portrait of my boys once a week for a year.

A lot of silliness outside to try to wear them out a bit.  So loud & busy today so outside is the place to be!

Linking with the project.

Soft Squishy Socks

Another pair of socks.  These took awhile as they have been my portable project.  So mostly worked on when out & about.  Hand bag sized.

Made out of some stash yarn I bought in Hobart a couple of years ago.  Nice to see some more yarn get used.  Nice to wear them cos they are really soft.

Thursday Thanks

  • Learning new things!
  • Using up stash.
  • Wellness.
  • Most likely a discovery that can help avoid sickness!  (avoid products containing Sorbitol as a sweetener!)
  • Being able to give gifts of food.
  • A thoroughly enjoyable book (A Man Called Ove) - being able to read is such a gift.  So many can't & are missing out on so much.
  • Spring is coming!
  • A boy that is enjoying reading.
  • Another smaller boy that is learning to write!
  • Coffee & chat with a friend.

Bookweek

So Bookweek is here again.

But I got of a bit lightly this year.  No sewing required.  Well I could have if I wanted to create an awful LOT of work for myself!

BJ decided this year he wanted to be Bofur a dwarf from The Hobbit.  Ekkk...  he made the decision based on his furry hat that he had been given for his birthday I think.

The picture he showed me first up with this one...

Thank goodness this was weeks ago so I had time to think about it...

A visit to one large op shop did the trick.  Turns out ladies clothing includes lots of brown jackets, but finding one small enough was the trick.  I didn't think over size was going to matter a great deal though for the character.  So this one worked out well, a nice Miss Shop suede jacket with furry bits.  lol  (he doesn't know it is a girls jacket!)

Anyway, Bookweek is over again for another year.  Next year will be dressing up 2 of them!

Juenau's Blanket

Quite pleased with Juneau's blanket.  It came up really pretty.  Being a stash buster I did get lots of acrylic yarn used up.  That was the aim.  It's about 1m square...  The boys enjoyed it.  I would ask them to pick the next colour out of the bag for me.  So they did have some input & enjoyed it too.  The ends weren't even so bad to weave in, even with the extras in the middle of rows when I joined short bits of the colours.

I still expect I have enough to do another easily but I don't have the small coloured fun scraps left like from this one.  This has bits from BJ & DJ's ripple blankets, about 5 of my crochet square samplers from the last few years & probably some other one or 2.  So there is a bit of variety.

A quick & easy blanket anyway!

BJ  - excited to snuggle in bed in his rearranged room.
DJ - wrote a sign that says "No one allowed in my bedroom".  He gets told by big brother not to go in his room so this was his way to get back at him.  lol

So Far So Good

Another bag of scrap, or not so scrappy acrylic yarn.  I have no idea why there is so much in my cupboard.  Anyway, after the bag of short bits I have started on this bag.  I removed all the balls that were still brand new & am making my way through the partial balls to use them up.

The triangle is getting bigger!  I will decide when the side is at a metre whether to make it a little bigger or not but a metre seems pretty good for the dog.  Then I hope to start the decreasing!

BJ - something good on TV.  Can just see that tooth gap...

DJ - hard to get a straight face from you these days.

What's Hiding In The Bag?

It always amazes me what is hiding in a bag of scrap yarn!  Do you have a pile of bits?  This is one little orange bag I had small scraps stashed in.  They boys sometimes use bits of it to stick on things.  But I have had in mind a plan to use them & the other acrylic scraps left over from my many acrylic blankets.  I tried the corner to corner crochet blanket in the past week & it's great.  A good pattern to start off using the small bits.

So I started the night with this mess...

& so far so good...

It's a good way to use up bits & who really cares in the end about colours & orders etc...  This is for my dog Juneau anyway.  She sure won't mind.

I just love to see what a bag of scraps is in disguise!

Footy Colours

What is one to do when their boy decides on a team to support in the footy?  Knit them a beanie of course!

Currently BJ tells me he supports 3 different teams, but I hope he doesn't expect a beanie in each set of colours!  It's a bit big but it looks quite good when it is on properly in slouching mode.

DJ & I finally got to take Daddy & BJ to the special beach.

This beach was a rubbish tip a whole lot of years ago.  Currently it is popular for people to visit to find seaglass & crockery & china bits from way back then.  The weather wasn't good which is obvious from the coats, but it was all fun anyway with a nice haul of seaglass, rocks & shells to take home.

New Knitwear

Every time we have our knitting get together I get so inspired each time.  Last time I ended up casting on a new thing that night.  I had planned to do it for a while but it was only earlier that week I remembered some yarn stash I had that might work for it.  So I checked it out & there was enough for one but not another.  So I started.

On the weekend I finished it.  It was about 6 weeks I think.

It's called Tea with Jam & Bread.  I have made it before in a child size.  But like the simplicity of the pattern for myself, although I had never done pockets before.  So, that was my challenge that I was determined to learn.  I did it.

Yay, learnt something new!  Used up yarn stash!  Have a new jumper for myself!

Snow Day = Crochet

Playing a bit of crochet catch up again.  Yesterday I managed the top square Butterfly Garden & then today being a snow day with a very rare event of snow falling at home, there wasn't much better to do than whip up Waldo's Puzzle in between watching the weather change, listening to reading & waiting for dinner to cook.  I think I got the rings in the right place this time too!  I have done it once before & it was only when I was finished that I realised I still had it wrong.  Seems OK this time.  I've been so busy knitting but it feels good to have these done now too.

BJ - Reading the good old "Peter & Jane" books.  It's just reading at home but it's been making a lot of difference at school too.  Yay for being able to read!
DJ - Oh to be this little & ummmm...  comfortable in silly places!
