Mini Quilt

Last week after that quilt top frenzy on New Year's Day, on the second new year day I kept it up a little bit more.  It was a charm pack of French General fabric that I have for a couple of years.  I had a half metre of the brown/grey to go with it & thought a quick half square triangle thing would be the go.  I can't get the charm packs any more so it will just have to be what ever size it turns into.  Which is not really huge or anything.  I will put a lightweight pellon on it & back it like a little quilt but just make it as a table topper or something like that.  I think I have some pellon that might fit.  Just need to see what I have for the backing.

So yay, another bit of stash used up & in the process of being turned into something.

The Other Oops

If you remember the other day when I said I had an Oops moment?

Well after I finished that tractor quilt top on Wednesday last week, I dug out a jelly roll.  I had in mind what I wanted to do with it for quite some time.  & well, I just went with it on Wednesday evening.  I had in mind, this pattern of the 1600 Quilt.  It didn't sound too hard!

Well no it wasn't really!  So before I went to bed that night I had this one hanging up pegged to the curtain.  It was only the next morning that one of the boys noticed it.  Before that, Stuart hadn't even registered that it wasn't the first one!  lol  So I was excited to have this one used & done.  I really like the fabric range.  It's Reunion by Sweetwater.  I don't get jelly rolls often but saw this in a different shop one day & bought it.  (where I work never stocked this line).  So there you go. One instant quilt.  (also used about 5 bobbins of thread in the sewing!  Wow, I have never run up so much thread so quickly!  lol

1/52

I am going to give this a go this year.  I think I should be able to manage a photo of each boy a week!  I will try this for my own reasons, although I am not a terribly great photographer though I am trying to learn new things.  If I don't try at least I won't know what I can do.  Should be fun trying too & seeing at the end of the year, how much both have grown.

"a portrait of my children, once a week in 2014"

1.  trying to be cross with Mum.  hehehehe... the grin is coming out.
2.  pulling daisies & grass to put in the wheelbarrow.  He loves the garden.

Linking up with Jodi's 52 week project.

Suncatchers

When you were a kid did you have a suncatcher?  One that you put the little coloured crystals in a metal frame & then cook in the oven?

I had seen a few of them around in the last few years that were just ones you coloured in or something but not the baking ones.  But wow, I found some baking ones at Australia Post sometime last year.  We had never done them as they were a bit girlie really.  We gave one to a school friend for her birthday last year.

But now Santa gave the boys one each.  Yay for Santa!  This morning we had some fun filling them up.  OK, so they aren't really meant for 2 year olds, but we humour ourselves as we know if BJ has something DJ needs the same.  Santa obviously thinks the same as us!  lol

DJ started out OK with my help, but then the thing moved & we had to shift it onto another tray.  The whole thing was all mixed up.  So DJ just went with it & filled it up messy.

So here we are!  BJ's lion, DJ's hippo.   I had fun, so I busted open the other 2 that I had bought at some point or other, (with or without Santa!) & did the fish & bird.   They are so cool!  They look good in the window.

Things I'm Loving

I thought I might try to play along with this for a bit & see how I go!  Thanks to Meghan for hosting this one!

  • Loving the holidays.  Although I have had to work for my usual 2 days this week it's still been quite laid back here.  Love that feeling.
  • Using stash.  Had ideas for ages for some of & finally making time to play.
  • Love being in the mood to bust stash!
  • Love watching the boys playing games...  really early.  This was before 9am just before I was leaving for work.  Lots of time for games it seems!
  • Love surprise visits at work from my boys!  Especially the little one that runs in, throws his arms open & yells "Surprise"!
  • Loving all the inspiration in blogland for all the crafts out there.  So much to see & do.
Short list this time...  Will think on it more in the weeks to come & hopefully get a little more in.

Thanks for reading.

Ooops...

Well I don't know how this happened!

Well I do really.  It is called "stupid crazy ideas that pop in your head" moments...

OK, where I work doesn't help at all.  I get stupid crazy idea moments often.  It isn't so often that I act on them so quickly.  Tuesday I was working while my family were off having a fabulous NYeve barbeque!  Oh well, that happens.  I need to work.  So I work.  I clean, tidy, help customers.  Get side tracked while cleaning & tidying.  As you do.  As a result I find myself taking home pretty fabric.  & a new book.  Growing up Modern.  It's an awesome book with great simple patterns for cot or small bed quilts.  (It was ordered into store originally with me in mind I believe!)  So NY Eve I got some cutting time in.  But boy, was I cross.  I seriously need to treat myself to a new rotary cutter. (Before I put a big hole in my window!)

New Year's Day was a miserable one.  It was drizzling all day long.  So what better way to play than to assemble a quilt top.  (I did also incorporate helping with some different jigsaw puzzles in the middle of this too!  The wee one was asleep which is why I achieved what I did! )

Lots of pretty strips to sort out.  My feature fabric was the tractors which was the ideal one for the line through this fabric.

& boy do I love this lot of co-ordinates.  I was so excited when we ordered those spots, stripes & chevrons some time back.  They only came into store at the end of the year.  But wow, I am just loving them.

Teamed up with a white & solid bella dark blue & voila...

I'm really pleased with the result.  DJ loved it.  He has a hat made from this tractor stuff which he kisses.  He did the same to this & snuggled up to it even though it was pegged to the curtain!

So a bit of simple quilting on it down the track & done.  Hopefully soon.

But hey, as if I stopped there.  Stay tuned for a second oops moment tomorrow...  :-)

New Year, New Ideas

Firstly, Happy New Year to you!  Have a terrific one won't you!

I just spotted this this morning.  I might just give it a go!  How hard can one thing a month be?  & I might learn something along the way.

OK, I can't figure out how to make my picture clickable.  If you can inform me I will adjust it, but in the mean time, the challenge link is here...  been an age since I have done it & now can't remember!  Doh!

ETA - Thanks Bron!  I think the image is clickable now!
