Christmas Ornaments

I got a bit of stitching done while camping last week.  I have just finished them off at home though.  Pretty cute & ready for the tree at the end of the year!    Ooops... the bear is nearly falling out of the wagon!   The basket is a really early ornament from Mill Hill.  They were quite primitive in design back then.  

Craft Time

So when that guy turned up last month, what's his name? ...  Claus... something like that, he left BJ a book of Pokemon Felties.  It's quite cool.  Has a lot of patterns to make your own felt pokemon creatures plus the supplies to make your first one, the little yellow guy Picachu.  Or is it a girl?  

Anyway, whatever it is..   we got started today.  I helped him with the cutting out.  Felt isn't nice to cut at the best of times.  Then we copied the lines onto the front piece & started the embroidery bits of the features for Picachu.  BJ got into it & did quite a good job for about an hour.  I did one from my felt supply at the same time but I haven't gone any further ahead so we can do each step together.  He is certainly eager to get it done but realises now it isn't going to happen in a few hours.  Stay tuned...

Tie-Dye

We finally had a chance to do our tie-dye shirts.  We were going to last holidays but it was never dry enough for such an activity.  I have had the shirts for a while.  Do you know how hard it is to get plain white shirts for boys?  Impossible!  So umm...  they are girl ones but don't tell them!  They are also too big for them as the smallest I could find was an 8.  So umm...  it's way too big for BJ let alone DJ.  

I had a go too.  I decided to use a shirt that I had stained a bit.  Well, after 15 mins in the dryer to heat set, mine is now rather too small for my liking.  Pity the boy's shirts didn't shrink too like that in the dryer!  

We had fun all the same.  Lucky I didn't heat set DJ.  He had almost as much on him as his shirt in the end!  

DJ & I did the scrunch method.  BJ did the tie the rubber band on in clumps method.  His looks really good!  DJ's suits him too, messy!  lol

Camping - 5

Lots of fun times for the boys around camp.  They made friends with a lot of other children.  We had a few in & out of our caravan.  It's good fun watching them out & about & not worrying about us, what we are doing or where we are.  We were parked outside our van having "Happy Afternoon".  They knew where we were if they needed us.  They had a great time & we had a great time watching them have a great time.  They eventually conked out each night after needing to be scrubbed clean though!  

Camping - York Town

We were staying not far from this place.  It was a "historic site" sign posted along the way.   BJ knew about York Town from his history lessons last year apparently.  So we went for a look, & the walk around the site.  Who know that this could have been where Launceston could have ended up being settled around.  

We had to imagine the convicts & other people around the area, but we didn't need to imagine a soldier as we came across one.

The boys wouldn't believe us I don't think when we said this is the size of the house a whole family would have lived in!

Camping - Platypus House

Right by Seahorse World was Platypus House.  I was again surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Information at the start about both the platypus & echidnas.  Boys were quite fascinated by the skeletons & bodies.

Jupiter was swimming around for us, being fed lots of bug bits!   He came up on deck though & looked about at everyone.

Walking through the echidna room was cool.  They had a bite to eat.  One was sleeping & wouldn't come out for any thing!  But these 2 wandered about.  One went between my feet!  Once again, DJ wasn't getting too close to these odd things.
