My Creative Space

We have yet another rainbow square today.  I enjoyed this one.  I did have a little play around with the centre working out how best to highlight the central piece.  I find the pattern will disappear depending on how you change colours on the rounds.  So this was another fun one out of the 50 Fabulous Crochet Squares book.  It's called Autumn Leaves.  I had done a couple of others with circles in the centre so needed to square it up a little!  I did add an extra row of the V-stitch to make it a little bigger.  I won't do many more of the ones in that book for now as mostly they are too small.  I will see how bored I get with the ones on Ravelry.

Our home for Creative Spaces has moved to pop over to the new home today & visit some others!

Here we go again!  New crochet along has started!  I really enjoyed the previous one but never really loved my colour choice which at the time was based on yarn I had on hand.

This one is again, but this is going to be done in a whole bunch of rainbow colours that I have.  This first square is called Amber Waves & was nice & simple.  A really nice way to begin!  We are only doing new squares every 2 weeks this time instead of every week, but I will do some others in between I expect!

Do you crochet?  Want to play along with the Crochet along?  It's on Ravelry.  Are you a member over there?  If you are, there is a discussion thread for it especially!  Check out the thread here.  There is no pressure!  If you decide to join & then can't down the track that's cool!  There are no crochet police over there!  You do what you can do!  It's good fun & nice to share the progress with everyone involved!  It must have been fun the first time around as we all wanted to keep in touch with each other enough to start another one!  lol

I need to make this picture big!  So you can see it in a little more detail!  Woohoo!  It's done!

I experimented the other day on joining techniques.  Just ended up doing regular whip stitch from the back.  (& yes it did make a difference if it was done from the front!)  Then I did a (US) DC for one round & then a scallop edge around that.  It needed something with a little interest I thought but nothing to frilly over done either.  So I felt this was enough.  I am so happy to have this done!  I still don't love it.  Still don't love the colours but that's tough.  I used what I had at the time.  That's good to stash bust!  I have put it away now to not look at if for a bit & then I may like it a bit more.  I did learn a lot in the process of the crochet - along though.  Fromt he start of the squares to what I was making last week to fill the blanket up I do feel like I have come along way with my abilities.  So I am pretty excited about what I have learnt.

We are starting another CAL on the 1st May doing more squares, but the new ones will be posted every 2 weeks instead of weekly like this one was.  It will be great!  Want to join in too?  Leave me a message & I will get back to you with where to find it!  If you are familiar with Ravelry then find the group called Afghans & Blankets & you will find a new discussion soon for it!  It will be great!  I have just picked my colours for the next one.  I am stash busting scraps of acrylic from everything else so far so that will be interesting.  I will probably hate it as well but oh well!  It will be fairly random & colourful which I do like too!

If you are visiting from creative spaces today, hi & drop me a line to say hi back!!  So many come by & don't stop for a chat!  It's sad!  If you are wanting to waste a load of time today checking out a lot of creativity then visit there for inspiration!  It's worth it really it is!

Finally I had a chance to make my bag!  I have been sitting on this for a bit waiting for the time & whatever else!  Can take a little while at the moment to do much of anything but this did get almost finished yesterday.  The bag itself is done but I decided I need to add magnet catches to the pockets.  I can get these sew on magnet bag catches so they are great to add on later if you decide to, as opposed to the one you need to put holes in to attach.  I've used 4 different fabrics in the Kensington range here,  different ones inside that are the same as the pockets you see on the outside.

I had a sod of a time sewing on the orange pompom row & then the ribbon over the top but I think they really add to the bag.  I'm quite pleased with it.  I have already chucked all my junk inside & will just get the magnets today & I am happy.  Woohoo!

Here I am again playing with toys!  OK, making them first!  But gee, Mrs Fox is pretty cute I think.  I decided the boys aren't getting this one.  This one is mine.  They can play with it but it's mine.  I will share with them.  Major lessons in sharing this will be!  I started Foxy the other day & have worked on it in bits & pieces, over the last few days.  I actually wanted it done last night but had to stop & get to bed.  So this morning I have done it's tail!  Yep, 7am crochet!  Lovely quiet time.  When the boys are up it will be crazy once more & things like this don't quite get the focus they need to mistakes occur in counting!  It is very important to do a lot of counting in amigurumi work.  Other wise they turn out funny shapes!  Yes I know this to be true.  No point doing a pattern if you aren't going to do the pattern!  Mostly I say patterns are just suggestions.  But if there is a particular shaped toy you are after it pays to follow the pattern!  lol
Mrs Fox is out of the Amigurumi Toy Box book that I still have from the library.  Thank goodness I have it over Easter.  Not finished with it yet.  Mrs Fox does have a scarf on in the book but I don't know if I want to dress her yet.  Baby Fox has a jumper on & I don't know if I will do that if I do baby fox at all.   We'll see how much time I get before I have to give the book back.  Boohooo...

Thanks for visiting me today & don't forget to visit other creative spaces!

Breakfast anyone?  Coffee & an egg?  OK you can't eat the egg as it's just hatched!  But you could try the coffee!  It is a happy coffee after all!

I've been playing as you can see.  This was play time yesterday.  I have the books from the library, Amigurumi World & Amigurumi Toy Box.  They are great!  Both by Ana Paula Rimoli.  Very good. So good in fact that I found the first one on fishpond for a bargain so hopefully that arrives soon!  Oops!  But really, it was over 50% off!  You can't go past that can you?  So today I have to fit in a bit more amigurumi making.  I will work out of the Toy box book now.  It's a toss up on what's first!  The fox, carrot with the rabbit inside or the jelly fish!  I am not a fan of jelly fish at all but I saw a bunch of them in rainbow colours & they looked awesome!

Boy that was perfect timing... BJ just walked in the room.  I showed him the finished egg.  The look on his face was priceless.  He likes it!  So now he has just picked what he wants out of the book.  A jelly fish is next by the look of it!  They really are cool!  & a pink one at that!  These don't take long so that's fun!  It will be interesting to see how long the jelly fish takes.  I used a 4mm hook on the coffee cup but changed to a 3.5mm on the egg.  Will do another cup in the smaller hook as the spaces are a bit big for a toy.  I even had the eyes on hand.  I got them at work a while back for just this sort of thing.  I even found them!  (after only about 5 minutes of looking!)

My Creative Space

What a mad crazy week it's been with a teething baby & a sick & miserable big boy!  Exhausting to say the least.  Somewhere in between all the misery & sleeplessness I have managed to play a little with this.  Last Thursday evening I had this crazy urge to start knitting with this yarn.  It's Paton's Stretchy Socks colour Fruit Slices.  I got it last year from Bubs2GrubsKnitting.  I really liked the look of it!  I had the crazy urge to knit a sock right that minute.  So I started the cuff.  Got the cuff & some of the leg started & this was my Sunday project when my Ravelry group of ladies met up at the chocolate factory for coffee & cake again.  I need mindless stuff to work on there as the conversation & show & tell sessions is very distracting.  (especially when we all have to model a new cardi that one had knitted & said cardi suited everyone!  Very surprising to see but it really did suit everyone - style & colourwise!)  Anyway, I got quite a bit knitted on Sunday.  I have finally got that jolly heel turned yesterday!  I had to consult the MIL on that as I couldn't remember that bit on the pattern. No wonder as my pattern is written wrong.  She had the updated correct version.  Phew.  So I have adjusted mine!   Hopefully today, since the big boy is acting like his usual self, I will be able to finish this one off.  I am working my way along the foot section & with a bit of luck I will get to the toe before too long.  It's great watching the stripes appear.  When you look at it & think that each stripe is only about 3 or 4 rows it doesn't seem to take long to knit up!

Hopefully I also can catch up on my mystery crochet along on Ravelry too.  I'm 4 days behind on that!  The green blob from the other day is stuffed & sewn up.  Now I think we are doing arms & legs.  Who knows! Stay tuned for that soon!

My Creative Space

Bit slow this week but here I am.
I have worked on another square for the heck of it to add to my collection.  This is Falling Star & quite pretty really though very wonky until it gets attached I think.

Then the other day I played around with some of the others.  This is Spring Fling which was my first square in the CAL.  It was too small & I decided how I would make it a bit bigger.  I like it much better now.

Here I am with the cross stitch out again.  I don't do as much as I used to because I can't.  It gives me big headaches.  But there are some projects I must get done this year.  Like this one.  I also have to do DJ's Christmas stocking before Christmas!  So I am trying to do at least an hour a day.  If I get a bit longer all the better.  At least I can take pain killers now if I need to for a headache as I wouldn't when I was pregnant to all stitching came to a stop last year.  Small projects only at the time.  Now I can work on the more tricky stuff, but it's still tricky with the boys.  But I must persevere.  It doesn't take long once I get into it!  But here's not to say I won't fit some crochet time in as well today!

My Creative Space

Oh it has been ages since I joined in on Our Creative Space!  I usually forget these days.  I don't know what made me think of it this morning, but something went ping in my mind!  Ouch!

This morning DJ went back to bed at 7.30am.  BJ wasn't up yet!  So what is there to do at that time of morning when you try to let children sleep?  Crochet!  Yay!  So I quickly had a look through my queue on Ravelry & decided on this Cross My Heart square.  It didn't take long!  While watching the circus on TV this morning that is Australian politics - & still it goes on, I was able to do all but the last round while the boys were still sleeping!  Just like that I have another square done for the sampler blanket!  Beauty!

Now off to finish the menu plan for the next week & then it is off to buy a stove though it isn't for my kitchen unfortunately!  Then the park for the boys.  Must find some instant hooky to take along.  Might have to dig out a wash cloth pattern for that just in case I get a chance to do some.

Check out the other creative spaces won't you!  They are always worth a look.

Our Creative Spaces

Today I am sharing creativity with BJ. Yesterday we stopped at Spotlight & he spotted a couple of things in the craft corner that I thought would be nice for us to decorate & stuff. He was quite excited. So this morning it was just about our first thing of the day of course. He concentrates on it quite well for a time, but I did have to finish it off. Plus he doesn't like getting his hands dirty so heaven forbid he actually got a spot of paint on his fingers! Anyway, the yellow pig money bank is outside drying still. His feet will need a touch up. I wonder what we will end up decorating him with next. Stickers or painted spots or something?

If the pig wasn't enough, he actually wanted this wand as well. So I gave in & bought a wand! It is actually a Pirate Wand of course. We tried to find pirate things in the shop yesterday to go on it but didn't find anything, so I will raid my scrapbook papers as I have some there. (yes I have scrapbook papers. No I don't scrapbook but I do buy the paper cos I like them. I wish more of the designs were on fabric! )

Some how in the middle of this & a baby that won't sleep much for me today ( & me who desperately would like to sleep!) I am also trying to get through a couple dozen sets of blocks for an order & to get some more in my shop for Christmas shoppers. So there are loads on BJ's farm table for lack of anywhere else at the moment to put them all. Oh well, it's only temporary.

ETA I keep trying to add comments on others but am getting the message I don't have permission to the view the page. Don't know if it is me or not. Some are working just fine!

Eye Tests

It's been a while since I played along with My Creative Space. In fact there is a place just for every one's creative spaces now.

At the moment I am fiddling around with this doll I have made up. Just a Geisha kind of doll that I had in my head & just wanted to see if I could create. It's going ok after a bunch of scrappy tests. I felt very designery playing with scraps & experimenting etc. But I am fiddling with the face now. I am experimenting with faces. Eyes are hard I have discovered, but one thing I have already figured out playing with this is that more simple if often best, so I need to get the needles & pencils & threads & whatever else back out again & try to get some uninterrupted time to figure out what face looks best. We'll see what happens, as I don't want it to look like creepy or anything. Eyes are hard!

Seems the day for eyes, as BJ has to go for a quick visit to the eye place. It's been a drag over the last 2 years, as they don't do anything. Hopefully it will be simple & the last one! Hopefully I can follow that up with a quick eye test here on dolly!

Anyway, go & visit the creative space link above to check out some other clever clog people! Happy Thursday!

My Creative Space

Well I have more or less got the star ornaments done. I need to dig out my ribbon box & find some hangers for the stars. I like them so much that I got crazy & got enough stuff to make another 14 of them for others for Christmas. I am still trying to work on as much handmade for Christmas as I can. I am also trying to do as much as the handmade myself as possible - though I think I can recruit hubby & kid to help paint the rest! Nothing like creating more work for yourself, but it's all fun! The B here is for my little fella, as his ornament for this year. The other 3 I have done so far will be flying around the world to some friends hopefully soon. I need to get cracking on the ribbons so I can get them mailed.

Yesterday my little fella was sick. I didn't have to cuddle him all day. I just had to sit near him. That was a bonus as I got this stitched up in that time. I was hoping to get it finished but oh well, I should finish off the last of it today. This is a Lizzie Kate design & it is actually a shop sample for work. I will put a finished pic of it on when it's done. It's cute. I really want to do all the rest of the set now which include Icecream, Candy & Pie. They look like stamps. Cute.

My rainbow ripples are growing nicely. I am really enjoying this blanket a lot. I love watching the rainbows grow & looking all bright & pretty. There are about 30 rows now. I wonder if I can be bothered to do about another 120! I am thinking it will be nice for BJ's bed when he is in his big bed. We'll see though. I am pleased for the ever growing blanket warmth on these last few nights when it grew very cold again.

I have been working on copying the pattern for the pjs for everyone out of the Heather Ross Weekend Sewing, while I have it from the library. It's a lovely book & there are so many things to inspire. I just need a couple of pants patterns for the toddler now so might try this pjs & the Huck Finn pants in the book.

Have got a couple more rows done of the Rainbow Ripple. Amazing what you can hook while playing Thomas trains with the little one! It's really just a matter of sitting with him & not quite so much of the playing. So play time becomes quite efficient. lol

Here's a sneak peak at a couple of letters today! This has been my creative space this week, trying to get this done for a deadline. Stay tuned for the rest of the alphabet! Usually A is for Apples, but the apple trees are bare. A is for Ants is rather appropriate around here right now as they are all heading inside through any tiny hole they can find! Can't beat cute little cows like that one either!

Today isn't so very crafty creative unfortunately. It turned into more of a "how to entertain a 2 year old" type of creativity. It is an important way to be creative & be prepared. Waiting rooms aren't like they used to be & you can wait for up to an hour these days to get in to your appointment. Luckily it wasn't quite that long today, but still I do go prepared with things to try to keep him happy & entertained & as disruptive to other people as possible. I don't care that I am reading to a room full of people as well as BJ though. lol

To see other creative people who may have had a chance to be crafty today check out the list at Kirsty's place.

But while you are here please check out yesterdays post with some colours of yarn I have. Help me decide on the poll on the right, which one to use next! Thanks!

... brought to you this week by the needles. Lots of needles! I decided last week I needed to knit some socks with some of my stash of sock wool before winter is over. Then I will get a chance to wear them at least this year. This is the start of one. I am currently turning the heel which is why it is all over the place. These use 5 needles as it is but I have 6 going for the heel as I didn't put the other half onto one. I actually like this pattern. It is the Regia line of sock yarn from Kaffe Fassett & the pattern that goes with it. I got it as a freebie with the wool when I bought it locally last winter! I like this pattern to work the heel much better than the pattern on the sock yarn label from Spotlight. I have a couple of balls of that yarn still & I have done that pattern a couple of times. I don't find the socks take long to do either. The band at the top was slow but as soon as you get to the knitting around it is quite mindless & simple. I love watching the rows appear. This yarn is Landscape Shade 4251 Storm by the way. I love socks. It's quite fun to make your own!
