This Quilt Book Is A Must Have

Bright & Bold Cozy Modern Quilts

Lucky you if you have this book already.  I just discovered it today at work when I unpacked it.  I did manage a minute to look through it too which was impressive in a crazy day...  It really is good though.  I couldn't believe the simplicity in some of the designs.  I have a couple of ranges of fabric that I am looking for the perfect pattern for.

But is there a perfect pattern?  It is what you make it isn't it?  Some people can see a quilt in chosen fabrics so easily.  Others can only see it in the colours that are presented to them in the pattern.  I think that would be difficult to not be able to see past what is in front of you.  I am amazed at customers sometimes when they need what is there in the book or even on display with samples we have in the shop of different things.  It becomes a problem too when all those craft magazines out these days keep turning up with a customer & they want the fabric that is in the magazine so they can recreate that quilt exactly.  Unfortunately it usually turns out that the magazine is a few years old.  That means the likelihood of finding said fabric is really slim.  I think we can be a bit behind the times where fabric is concerned in these parts but it is funny as the customers are even further behind it seems.

In any case, I think I have found the perfect book with a couple of patterns that I can certainly envisage for some funky orange, pink & white fabric that I have.  The patterns are really easy to follow with great cutting guides, block assembly & quilt top assembly.  In fact it was so easy that the patterns usually only were on 2 pages!  & that was with good pictures in it too!  Well, this is definitely one for my wishlist.  Do you have this book?  Which one have you made from it?

This Crochet Book is a must

I have had a number of crochet books from the library over the last few months. I just got this one the other day. This is one of the best I have seen. For a bit of a novice in the crochet department this has really good info in the start on joining new yarns, starting new rounds, joining up shapes when complete, problem solving things like flatness in your motifs & different edges. The instruction for the different stitches are really clear, if you want to learn how to read a diagram crochet pattern it shows that too & wow, there are so many different types of grannys & the like you will want to make them all! I know I do. The triangles look cool! There are even rectangles, stars & all sorts. Even the circles look cool! I definitely recommend it anyway. I guess I had better give the library their back soon, but I will put this on my wish list at fishpond.com.au for sure!

I had better go & make the most of this book while I have it then!

Beautiful Books

Here are 2 lovely books I have just had from the library. Actually I still have A Second Helping here. But they are terrific! The first one, The Thrifty Kitchen is just lovely. It is a large hardcover book. Not only are the recipes lovely but I found all the hints & tips & info included more useful than the rest of it. I must admit I did copy a couple of recipes out but would have loved to copy most of the book.

I think Stuart likes the book as it explained how to make the perfect poached egg. Well I tried it & well it was pretty darned good if you ask me. We have something special for brunch on Sunday's. The other day we had poached eggs, wilted spinach & hollandaisse sauce on toast. It was good. Even the hollandaisse was good. Yes I made that too. Next Sunday if I remember to get some ham I will do Eggs Benedict. My favourite. But the one with the spinach was good too. Can't be straight out of the garden home grown spinach leaves.

The other book is lovely too. If you have check out my review & the book Ladies, A Plate, from ages ago you will know how much I loved that one. Well I didn't think the second one could live up to the first. When do sequels do that? Not often. But this is just as good as the first. Really it is. There is one recipe I will most definitely be trying very soon. I don't know if I will be sitting down to copy out a whole bunch of them. In the meantime they are hanging around my wish list on fishpond waiting for me to be rich! Hahahahaha...

There's a Leprechaun in my room. He swats me with a broom.
That's the reason I forget the words of this song.
Well he shows me a four-leaf clover, and before me song is over,
It's buried in a bowl of Lucky Charms.

Interesting book?

I just love the name of this book & think it would be an interesting read. Maybe.

I love the idea of many of us getting around like Audrey Hepburn. I can't really imagine myself swanning about like she does in Breakfast at Tiffanys, but it is a lovely idea & image. A girl can dream. Mind you, that's not to say I am currently a Hilton type now! Please don't think that! lol

And I said "What about Breakfast at Tiffany's?"
She said "I think I remember the film.
And as I recall, I think we both kinda liked it"
And I said "Well, that's the one thing we've got"
